As many of you know, I’m a member of an online support group for pPROM moms. There are about 41 members in the group, but only about 12 of us are currently active. We support each other, share information, encourage positivity and lend an ear when we have tough days. I’m not quite sure what the past four weeks would have been like were it not for this group.
Not everyone has a happy ending. I learned this morning that one of the moms who’s based in the UK lost her baby during delivery on Friday. I don’t know the details, but he was born at 31 weeks and weighed 4lb. 11 oz. This mom had an area of hemorrhage early in her pregnancy then her membranes ruptured at 21 weeks. My heart just breaks for her. I’m sending her strength and courage to get through this difficult time.
Others in the group have much happier outcomes. One mother gave birth via c-section this morning to twin boys! They made it to 29w6d. I’m waiting for details, but do know that both babies weighed about 3 lbs. and x-rays revealed nothing worrisome about the lungs. She even heard them CRY! The amniotic sac for one of her babies ruptured at 17w6d, just about a week before I ruptured. Her AFI levels have been anywhere from “unmeasurable” to 5 cm, usually measuring on the low end. I hope everything goes well for her and her precious baby boys. She also keeps a blog, which I will include in the links list to the right, but I want to make sure it’s ok with her first.
